Highly Tunable Photonic Microwave Filter Based on a Broadband Optical Source Sliced by Two Cascaded Fabry-Perot Filters

In this paper we have proposed a highly tunable spectrum sliced photonic microwave band pass transversal filter for microwave and millimeterwave frequency applications. This filter configuration is based on two cascaded Fabry-Perot filters with different free spectral range and a broadband optical source. The high tunability of the filter is achieved by carefully choosing free spectral range of the individual Fabry-Perot filters in cascaded configuration. The simulated result shows that the overall filter RF response with 18.28 GHz free spectral range and mainlobe to sidelobe suppression is 37.24 dB.The Quality factor of 119 has been achieved.
